What is neighbourhood planning?
Neighbourhood planning gives communities like ours the power to develop a vision for our neighbourhood. Together we can shape the development and growth of our local area.
We are able to choose where we want new homes, (shops and offices) to be built. We can have our say on what new buildings should look like, and what infrastructure should be provided. Communities can grant planning permission for the new buildings they want to see go ahead.
Neighbourhood planning provides us with a powerful set of tools to ensure that we get the right types of development in our community – where the ambition of our neighbourhood is aligned with the strategic needs and priorities of the wider local area.
Unlike a community-led Parish Plan, an approved Neighbourhood Plan forms part of the development plan and would sit alongside the Tewkesbury Borough Local Plan. Decisions on planning applications will be made using both plans, ‘and any other material considerations’.
Deerhurst Parish Neighbourhood Development Plan
This plan covers the areas of Deerhurst, Apperley, Lower Apperley, Walton Hill, Deerhurst Walton and Hoo Lane. A Steering Group (delegated from the Parish Council) is working to bring the Parish together to write a plan based on what we would like our area to be like for future generations.
